“अधरेष्वमृतं हि योषितां हृदि हलाहलमेव केवलम्।”
हिंदी में अर्थ : स्त्रियों के अधरों पर अमृत होता है, परंतु उनके हृदय में केवल विष (हलाहल) होता है।
English Translation : On the lips of women, there is nectar, but in their hearts, there is only poison.
व्याख्या : यह सुभाषित प्राचीन काल की मान्यताओं और दृष्टिकोणों को दर्शाता है, जिसमें कहा गया है कि स्त्रियों के बाहरी व्यवहार में मिठास और आकर्षण होता है, लेकिन उनके भीतर द्वेष या कपट हो सकता है। हालांकि, यह विचार आज के आधुनिक संदर्भ में सही नहीं है, क्योंकि यह केवल एक एकांगी दृष्टिकोण है और हर व्यक्ति के आचरण को उसके चरित्र से ही मापा जाना चाहिए, न कि केवल लिंग के आधार पर। यह सुभाषित इस बात का उदाहरण है कि प्राचीन साहित्य में किस प्रकार स्त्री-पुरुष संबंधों के बारे में विचार व्यक्त किए जाते थे।
